Sweet Dreams

A survey completed by Allure Magazine reported that 71% of women think they don't get enough sleep.

Do you struggle with falling asleep or staying sleep through the night. Do you feel refreshed when you wake up in the morning, even after resting for 6 to 8 hours?

An article written in October 2010 by Dr. Mercola reported that impaired sleep patterns can cause stress disorders which may lead to heart disease, stomach ulcers, constipation, and/or mood disorders. Regular loss of sleep makes you age faster and chronic insomnia can make any illness
more severe.

Here are a few natural remedies/tips that you may like to try to get you moving towards a good nights' rest. Please note that you may want to consult a doctor if you actually suffer from chronic insomnia, as this could be a symptom of a more serious condition.

Yoga- Deep breathing, meditation, and stretching right before you go to bed

Aromatherapy- Lavender, chamomile, and ylang ylang are considered to be relaxing and calming scents perfect for putting you to bed. Try adding an oil to a warm bath, or a lavender sachet underneath your pillow.

Music- If you have a smart phone, you can typically find apps that are for helping you wind down or sleep through the night. Put on some quiet meditation music to get you to doze off.

Focus on the positive- Instead of looking over bills, work projects, and calendar events, try reading something spiritual and uplifting. This will relax your mind and prep you for a good nights' sleep.

Wind Down- Instead of watching tv until you pass out in the bed, try some of the ideas mentioned above and try to wind down about an hour before you head to bed.

Bad habits to avoid prior to heading to bed - anything that is stimulating; bad foods, caffeine, alcohol, rigorous work-outs, stressful activities, showers, television, etc.

*****Not feeling refreshed when you wake up and look like you've been through the ringer? Try these simple tips to give you a morning glow, even though you feel like crap! Sweet dreams.

EyeSlices- great natural product that have proven to work within five minutes of use. This miracle worker is able to reduce redness, puffiness, and tired eyes.

Tea Bags- try placing cold tea bags either over your closed eyes or on the puffiness of your eyes to reduce swelling

Cucumber Slices- place two slices of cucumbers on closed eyes to add moisture and to soothe

Wet Washcloth- freeze before bed and place on eyes for about five minutes

Introducing the Kiwi

So, the kiwi originated in China, but is now grown in the US, in addition to a few select countries.  Here in America, the kiwi is pretty easy to find, and also reasonable in price.  Believe it or not, this sweet fruit is jammed pack with vitamin C - even more than that of an orange!  Also contains vitamin E, low in fat, and no cholesterol The two main claims floating around about the kiwi: 1. It's a natural energy booster! 2. It can effectively reduce asthma symptoms, and respiratory problems in general. It reduces heart problems and increases lung function. It has been suggested that a child suffering with asthma conditions can eat one to five kiwis weekly to reduce symptoms. I have personally embraced the kiwi because of the taste, plus it's a convenient snack.  But, now my love for the kiwi has been placed on a higher level.  Okay, that's a little extreme!  But seriously,  it's a fruit to consider trying, and if possible,  introduc...

Self Care- Make it a Habit

Self care habits in progress. I feel so good when I take time out to treat myself. It pleases me  even more when the practice is inexpensive. Polishing my nails, at-home facial, or sometimes a lengthy shower or bath.  It's extremely important to make time for yourself. I know we hear this often, but self care really promotes mental and physical health. If you're having a rough day, challenging week, or simply feeling  overwhelmed or unenthusiastic about circumstances, I strongly urge you to make time for yourself. I find that I am able to think clearer, and my stress levels are reduced significantly after I practice self care.  Sharing a few self care pics below; at home facial, read book alone in the car, or outside in the sun, make a fun (favorite drink) to enjoy alone, or try an at home mani/pedicure. I also find drawing and painting extremely relaxing. Perhaps you can take a walk or get your heart pumping by exercising. Try slower movements with yoga or pilates....

Zinc

Boost your immune system, and start repairing your body internally with zinc.  My (functional medicine) doctor recommended that I incorporate zinc into my diet, by taking a daily supplement, but preferably considering zinc in my food choices.  It was explained that zinc could assist with reversing some of the internal damage of my stomach.  For most of my life, I've been consuming gluten, probably daily, never realizing that it was wreaking havoc on my intestines. In the beginning, I mainly suffered from constipation.   As I got older, bloating and stomach discomfort became a daily thing, along with the constipation.  My stomach issues became my life, and began controlling my life, and even my wardrobe.  Yes, my scarf collection, and flowy tops expanded.   Keeping a scarf on hand daily, in case I needed a cover up for my distended belly.   Then came the hiatal hernia and belching, after almost every meal, and I'd sometimes e...
