Down-to-Earth Living

So who enjoys climbing into a bathtub that still has the gritty residue of Comet lingering?  Or how about using Pine Sol that can be so strong, you have to evacuate the children from the cleaning area?  And what about sneezing, coughing, or just the urge to sit down right after you've tossed 'carpet fresh' throughout your home?

When using certain cleaning products on the market, it's actually suggested that we use them in a ventilated place.  If a child were to get hold of it, their insides could burn, possibly make them blind, or be deadly.  There is a long term effect to using toxic chemicals, particularly when dealing with infants and young children, whom are especially vulnerable.

Where you aware that there are many alternative products (many sitting at your house now) that can be used to clean, disinfect, and freshen up your home in a safer manner?

It's your home, so why create a toxic environment for your family.  This is especially important for those of us that struggle with sensitive skin, asthma and allergies.  I want to share some simple cleaning tips with you.  Believe me when I say, "it's just as easy, a little cheaper, and just as effective as what you've been doing, but without the guilt."

Read further to see what I use to create a safer home by making a few simple updates to how you clean.  By the way, I have been using natural cleaning methods for nearly 5 years, and they work!

Products I keep around my house at all times: white vinegar, baking soda, hydrogen peroxide, lemon juice, and rubbing alcohol.  With these products alone, I am able to the following household chores and more; deodorize and clean  the carpet, mop, polish furniture, scrub sink/toilet bowl/tub, and clean kitchen drain.  I will later discuss products you can make at home.

Let me know if you need help with creating a safer cleaner home.  Also if you have tried any natural cleaning, tell me what you loved/hated.

Moroccan Red Clay - hair and beauty treatments

Red clay is one of my recent discoveries.  I came across the name numerous times while surfing the Internet, and only read great reviews.  I decided to make a purchase a few months back, and finally put this clay to use. Most of you know that I have tried several clays, and have been satisfied with each one.  I try to keep them on hand and tend to use them more for my hair than for my face or body.  My favorite clays are Indian clay and Kaolin clay.  Simply add water, aloe vera juice, and/or apple cider vinegar, and you've created an instant paste.  The amount of liquid used will of course be based on what you're creating; facial, hair conditioner, foot application, etc. Red clay can also be used on the body, head to toe.  It has been used for centuries- across the world.   Tackle blemishes or create cleaner and clearer skin.  Alleviate acne, discoloration and create youthful skin.  If you are suffering from any of...

Shower Steamers

If you're a big fan of showers, plus love aromatherapy, than shower steamers are a must-have.  So quick and simple to make, and the benefits are pretty amazing too.  While showering and doing whatever it is that you're doing in the shower, you can easily multi-task and take on a mind blowing aromatherapy treatment.  I love lavender for relaxing, and eucalyptus when I'm feeling ill.  How about lemongrass for an early morning pick-me-up, or perhaps, just because you want your bathroom to smell like flowers as you're showering.  My homemade steamers (lemongrass, cucumber melon, and lavender).  I keep mine in a sealed tight bag until they are ready to be used.  This ensures the scent is locked in.  Because the steamers can be somewhat pricey in the stores, maybe consider making them at home for pennies.  Here are a few options, that offer a variety of scent concoctions, and a little creativity too if inter...
