Detox This Home

Ever wonder why there has been a massive influx in the diagnosis of asthma, allergies, autism, ADHD, fibroid tumors, endometriosis, infertility, numerous cancers, diseases, and illnesses.   The diagnosis' keep coming, but the cause and genuine explanation as to why is stated, "TO BE CONTINUED."  Perhaps, it's true that our bodies are continuously being exposed (overexposed) to chemicals and toxic matters that we cannot begin to even fathom an accurate count.  It's been proven that a baby will be exposed to numerous toxins, only hours of exiting the mother's womb.  Truth, even the "safe" breast milk is contaminated with chemicals and unknown toxins.  You are basically exposed to toxins simply by existing. We would love to believe that if a product or food is placed on the market for the consumer, it must be safe.  Fact, the American Chemical Society and the FDA have very few restrictions on how they decide if a product is safe.  It is

Free Your Mind - Letting Them Go

Get rid of "everything" that is bad for you: I'm always stressing the importance of analyzing our belongings, tossing junk, unnecessary items, unimportant things that take up space in our homes, space, and our minds.  We often get too attached to "things" but I know from experience, how empowering it feels to free up your space. But what about people?  Yes, people that are negative, unhealthy, space-invaders, and toxic. Often, people can distract us from our goals or possibly block our opportunities and happiness. I've removed and let go of several people in my life over the years, because I felt it was absolutely necessary. Even if it's someone you love-  love them from a distance.   If the relationship is exhausting, draining you mentally, getting the best of you, let it go.  No explanation needed, and no guilt to follow. Below, Zen Habits offers a list of ways to deal with the good, the bad, and the ugliness of a relationship, as well as

The Understatement, I'm Flawed

How many times have I flipped through a magazine, or scrolled through Pinterest, and stopped midway because I came across a face that was simply beautiful.  I often think that just maybe, the days of perfection are going out the window.  Perhaps, we are finally starting to accept beauty and all of it's flaws that go along with it.  The shape, freckles, glasses, braces, gap teeth, too skinny, too fat, too tall, too short, big butt, flat butt, too dark and pale, straight and curly hair, thick and fine hair. And the list goes on..... I'm amazed more often than not, because I'm constantly reading and reviewing articles and websites that focus on what's going on in our world today.  The truth is, no "I didn't wake up like this, perfect, and I don't live a life of perfection."  Even the stars are starting to voice their flaws, and parent's are calling out their own downfalls.  I'm loving it, because it just helps us all be more present. I

Travel the World With Me

Traveling is definitely at the top of my list when I think about something that brings me pleasure.  It's an opportunity to seek and find.  Sometimes, there's nothing in particular that I'm looking for. but I always find something on my travels to elsewhere.  I find myself reflecting on my life, situations, things that I'm most grateful for, as well things I believe I need to change.  It's guaranteed that I will return to my hometown a changed women in some way. *****Favorite places that I've traveled to, New York, Barbados, and Paris! *****Places on the top of my bucket list-  Several parts of Africa, Tokyo, Dubai, Bora Bora

The Clean House Rules!

Everyone loves a clean, bacteria safe, germ-free, disinfected home. Well if you haven't made the green switch yet, the time has come.   This is not a "bandwagon" you're jumping on either.  This is necessary for protecting your family.  Natural homemade cleaning products aren’t just safer for us health wise, they are also more cost-effective while protecting the environment.  It's a win-win situation in comparison to the alternative - a germ free home with dangerous, and possibly, deadly side effects. Many times, the aftermath of chemical exposure is hidden unless you suffer from asthma and allergies. However, our skin and lungs are silently effected by the contact of these toxic cleaning products, and even more so when we involve children and babies. Long term, the toxins in your cleaning products can disrupt the hormonal system, cause irreversible eye conditions and visual damage, trigger asthma attacks, lead to skin discoloration or rashes, attack the

Intro to Ayurveda, The Dosha - Part 1

Did you know?  Symptoms on the forehead can be linked to the colon.  Symptoms related to the nose and cheeks can be linked to the small intestine, while symptoms related to the mouth, chin, and neck are often due to issues related to the chest and stomach. Ayurveda, pronounced ai-er-veda, means life-knowledge, or knowledge of longevity.  It is a well known system of Hindu traditional medicine.  Considered to be the world's oldest forms of healthcare and healing, it is an alternative to evidence-based or western medical treatments and practices.  Ayurveda often challenges most of what we know, as related to western approaches and other conventional teachings. The Ayurveda system consists of various studies that analyze how we eat, think, and function in our day to day lives.  It has been proven successful for many, offering therapeutic healing and balance of the mind, body- internally and externally, as well ones overall wellbeing. What's Your Dosha?   The three d

Pores - Be - Gone

Pores can be overwhelming to the face when they appear large and clogged, often giving the appearance of damaged and blemished skin.  It's a concern for many, but definitely an issue that can be tackled with simple remedies.  The pores become enlarged from various things; sun exposure, poor skin care, aging,  natural reactions from the environment, or oils produced by the skin, to name a few.  The two links below offer simple home remedies that you can use to shrink those pores and get the skin you're yearning for.  http://www.homeremedyshop.com/31-home-remedies-to-shrink-the-open-pores/ http://www.top10homeremedies.com/how-to/get-rid-clogged-pores.html

Amla Oil - Hair and Scalp Therapy

The oil is taken from the Indian gooseberry which is a tree native to India.  It offers special proponents and fatty acids that strengthens the hair, moisturizes and stimulates the scalp, elevators grays and dry strands, and encourages hair growth.    This is the only brand I've used, Dabur Amla shown below.  It does wonders for my coils.  My scalp can dry out easily, but this does the job, by simply doing a treatment once to twice monthly.  You can however use it more often, depending on your hair needs. My preference is to saturate my hair with the oil and apply a plastic cap for two to three hours.  I then follow the oil treatment up with a natural shampoo cleansing and deep conditioner.  This will assist with maintaining a healthy shine, as well as prevent breakage to my fragile ends.  Link on how to apply the oil and get the best effect: http://www.wikihow.com/Apply-Amla-Oil Here's a simple outline from Longing4length.com that lists the expected results

Turmeric Spice- The Makeover

I often talk about turmeric powder, and it's awesome benefits for the skin .  Well here's a great article that discusses just how effective this simple spice can be.    Check it out from www.byrdie.com :   http://www.byrdie.com/benefits-of-turmeric/

Grapeseed Oil

So grapeseed oil is one of those items I frequently alternate off and on between coconut oil.  I'll pretty much grab whichever one I can pick up faster in my house.  My top favorite things to use grapeseed oil for would be my face.  I apply daily after I use blacksoap on my face.  It's perfect for applying to my hair before shampooing and conditioning.  Simply saturate the hair in the oil, and apply a shower cap for an hour, or as long as you choose- can't hurt.  You can also use it once you've cleansed your hair and scalp, as a routine hair oil.  This oil moisturizes the hair in addition to conditions and strenghtens those ragged ends.  Their is little to no smell, so it should not conflict with any other products you may use.  It's perfectly safe for children as well (hair and skin).  Apply the oil to dry skin daily, to heal dried and skin and cracked heels.  Moistuize the cuticles and nails to strenghten and help those nails grow too!  So that's

Honey, Honey

Honey has always been on the top of my list when I think about moisturizing my skin (lips, face, body).  And let's not forget our locks.  A hot oil treatment mixed with honey is sure to make your locks soft and shiny.  Also, one of the things I am consistently working to address are my allergies.  I recently learned that taking a spoonful of local honey can assist with managing and possibly alleviating allergies when triggered by enviornmental culprits.  Well honey, there's more to honey that just the few things that I have mentioned, by far.    Here is a great link from Oranic Facts, https://www.organicfacts.net/ which mentions a mulitude of uses and benefits of honey.  I'm sure there are many uses you've never even thought of, so please view and learn ways use honey as an alternative natural healer, and more.     https://www.organicfacts.net/health-benefits/health-benefits-of-honey.html

Must Have Oils - hair, face, body, nails, cooking

Oils are definitely a must have for my household.  Of course I use them in my beauty products, but I also apply them to my body, hair, and face.  Yes, straight from the bottle.  My face loves grapeseed and coconut oil.  They are both extremely lightweight.  I never worry about the oil clogging my pores or leaving an oily residue behind.  They are powerful enough to even keep me moisturized through these cold dry winter months.  I use argan, coconut, and grapeseed oil on my hair for added moisture, as well as to prevent breakage, and for sealing my ends.  These oils also come in handy when doing hot oil treatments, scalp massages, or removing makeup.  Click link below to review a great article from Triburban, http://www.triburban.com/about-triburban/ .  It offers tidbits on the oils mentioned as well a few more of my favorites.  http://www.triburban.com/five-multipurpose-oils-that-you-should-keep-in-your-house-if-you-are-a-naturalista/
