The Clean House Rules!

Everyone loves a clean, bacteria safe, germ-free, disinfected home. Well if you haven't made the green switch yet, the time has come.   This is not a "bandwagon" you're jumping on either.  This is necessary for protecting your family.  Natural homemade cleaning products aren’t just safer for us health wise, they are also more cost-effective while protecting the environment.  It's a win-win situation in comparison to the alternative - a germ free home with dangerous, and possibly, deadly side effects.

Many times, the aftermath of chemical exposure is hidden unless you suffer from asthma and allergies. However, our skin and lungs are silently effected by the contact of these toxic cleaning products, and even more so when we involve children and babies.

Long term, the toxins in your cleaning products can disrupt the hormonal system, cause irreversible eye conditions and visual damage, trigger asthma attacks, lead to skin discoloration or rashes, attack the lungs and other organs, and more.

With green cleaning in my home, I freely clean with my children and pet in the vicinity and even within close distance.  They can partake in cleaning the home, as the products don't consists of dangerous toxins that can harm their little lungs, or burn their eyes.  No need to air out the house, because a well ventilated place is not required.  My daughter  suffers from both allergies and asthma, so green cleaning was clearly the only option for home.

So are you ready to put those chemicals away, protect your family and your space?  See how you can create your own cleaning products - view the links below from the Greatist, The Raw Greek blog, and Earth Easy sites.  Save money, save your home!

Bon Pour Moi offers a line of cleaning products if you prefer to purchase vs creating.  Prices range from $4-$7, and various scents are available.  Happy Cleaning!

Kelp Powder - Mineral Hair Treatment

View my sea kelp natural hair treatment I tried over the weekend.  It is a simple process that offers great results- shine and additional minerals that are great for the hair.  My concoction included kelp powder, aloe vera juice, and oils.  I decided to use coconut and red palm oil in my mixture, but feel free to use whatever oils work well with your hair- almond, apricot, etc.  Leave the mixture on for 2 to 4 hours.  It's easy to wash out, and the smell is minimal.  The first pic of my hair shows my texture prior to the treatment.  View the sheen and length after treatment.  This is a completely natural home remedy.  Care to learn more about kelp and how it supports hair growth, and the overall body-depending on how you use it.   Check out the link from Herb Wisdom for additional info.   http://www.herbwisdom.com/herb-kelp.html

Me, Myself, and I

Life can be so fast paced, non-stop at times. There are days when I say, 'I'd like to get off this ride and take a break!'  And I will slow down if at all possible, meaning saying no to someone, I can't help, I can't go.  Sometimes it's just necessary for me to check in with myself and realize when too much is too much.  Just two weeks ago, I was laid out on a beach, on an island, alone. No children, no husband, not even a girlfriend.  Just me, my music, and a good book.  It's rare that I get time alone, but I believe it's highly necessary.  I've gotten a few raised eyebrows because I have taken several trips without my children, a few outside of the country.  I don't feel guilty one bit.  I'm certainly not a perfect mother, but I know that quality time is important in my household, along with family fun, activities, and traveling.  Although challenging, stealing alone time really needs to be made a priority.  This time can attribute t...

Savvy Wash

Dishes and laundry are two household tasks that we all know well.  These are chores we picked up on way back in our teen years, if not younger.  You have probably got them down to a science, but how about I give you a few interesting facts and tips that can save time, energy, money, and protect  the environment.  Read on! We have an understanding that using the dishwasher is greener than washing by hand. This is true in most cases, and even more so if you have an energy-efficient dishwasher.  Here are a few suggestions to keep in mind to be even greener and cut costs on your water and electricity bills. Reduce your water consumption: Avoid pre-rinsing and only run full loads.  If you are neat freak and just hate to go to bed with a disorderly kitchen, throw the dishes in the dishwasher and run it once full. Try using the cold-water setting if this is an option on your dishwasher. Also let the dishes air dry, versus using the heat dry option.  The h...
